Alex Jamieson secures the exoneration of a nurse charged with causing the death of a patient
The nurse had assisted in the administration of a massive overdose of insulin to a vulnerable elderly patient, after a calculation error in the prescription made by a junior doctor. However, after three days of evidence and submissions, the Nursing and Midwifery Council accepted that in the light of the nurse’s subsequent actions in trying to save the patient, and the exceptional circumstances of the shift, that her actions did not amount to misconduct, and that no penalty would be imposed upon her.
