Paul Mendelle QC secures acquittal in pipe bomb case instructed by Veja & Co and led Priya Patel of the firm.

Following a four-day trial at Isleworth Crown Court, Harinderjit Jarrett was unanimously acquitted of one count of possession of a pipe bomb with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property contrary to s. 3(1)(b) Explosive Substances Act. The defendant had told her occupation therapist about the bomb the day after finding it in her flat, although it had been made by her ex-boyfriend about two years earlier. The therapist informed the police who attended the defendant’s address the next day and seized the bomb. Although acquitted of the serious offence of possession with intent to endanger life, the defendant was convicted of simple possession on the basis she had never reported it to the authorities.
