South African Court facing Constitutional Crisis
Courtenay Griffiths QC is instructed to defend Judge President John Hlophe against allegations of gross misconduct. Judges of the Constitutional Court have accused Hlophe of trying to influence the outcome of cases linked to corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma. The tribunal hearing is investigating and making findings on the alleged attempts. With impeachment of the judge president of a provincial division a possibility the matter has proved one of the most high profile for post-apartheid South Africa and has divided the country's legal fraternity.
